Your Custom Ring Care Guide: Keep It Beautiful for Life

Updated: Jun 24

Your custom ring is handcrafted to last forever. Here's how to keep it looking new.

Daily Care (The Basics)

Remove it during:

  • Dishwashing, cleaning, or gardening

  • Showers or swimming

  • Gym or rough activities

  • Applying lotion or skincare products

These activities expose your ring to chemicals, impact, and moisture that can loosen prongs or dull the setting. Just slip it off and put it somewhere safe.

Wear it everywhere else. Your ring is durable. It's meant to be worn, not stored.

Cleaning Your Ring (At Home)

Weekly cleaning:

Fill a small bowl with warm water and a drop of gentle dish soap. Place your ring in the bowl for 10–15 minutes, then use a soft toothbrush to gently brush around the stone and band, especially under the setting where dirt hides. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth.

That's it. This keeps your ring brilliant between professional cleanings.

What to avoid:

  • Don't use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners

  • Don't use an ultrasonic cleaner at home (I can do this professionally)

  • Don't soak your ring for hours

  • Don't scrub hard or use a regular toothbrush (too rough)

Professional Maintenance (Once or Twice a Year)

Every 6–12 months, bring your ring to me for a professional inspection and cleaning

Here's what I do:

  • Deep clean in professional-grade solutions

  • Inspect every prong, setting, and band for wear

  • Tighten any loose settings before they become problems

  • Polish the metal if needed

  • Check the stone for any signs of damage

This prevents small issues from becoming big repairs. And it keeps your ring looking like new.

What Happens Over Time

Your ring will show signs of wear. That's beautiful. It means you're wearing it and living in it.

Gold bands may develop small scratches. That's normal. You can have it polished anytime, but many couples love the patina that develops.

Platinum scratches are less visible but can happen. Professional polishing brings back the shine.

Prongs may loosen slightly after years of wear. This is why regular inspections matter. Caught early, it's a quick fix. Caught late, it's more involved.

Stones are incredibly durable, but they can collect dirt under the setting or develop a film from daily wear. Regular cleaning handles this.

Storage

When you're not wearing your ring, store it in a soft pouch or small box, not loose in a drawer. Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme temperature changes.

If Something Happens

Loose prong? Stone feels loose? Band is bent? Contact me right away. The sooner you catch it, the easier and faster the fix. This is part of why you have me as your lifetime jeweller.

The Bottom Line

Your custom ring is built to last a lifetime. Treat it gently, clean it regularly, get it inspected annually, and it will look beautiful for decades.
